Our History

Eric Lear founded the firm in 1984, and established its first office on Nassau Street in downtown Princeton, New Jersey. Eric’s goal was to build a firm of professionals that emphasized outstanding client service and community involvement, and acted proactively to meet its clients’ business and financial needs.
Gary Pannepacker worked with Eric early in his public accounting career, and joined the firm in 1988 as its tax partner. Over the next eleven years, until the unexpected passing of Gary in 1999, Eric and Gary developed a teamwork approach to meeting client needs and solving problems, offering a combination of strategic planning and detailed implementation to a growing family of entrepreneurial clients.
Scot Pannepacker joined the firm in 1989, became partner in 1999, and helped carry on the tradition of excellence established by Eric and Gary. Our mission continues to be a full service, regional accounting team partnering with entrepreneurial-minded individuals, businesses, and community organizations. We adhere to our industry’s highest professional standards of quality, integrity and client service. We develop a long term perspective, while providing customized and personalized financial and strategic planning to promote our clients objectives. Our firm’s principal goal is to provide accounting, tax and management services to satisfy our client’s needs to plan for growth and success.
The team at Lear & Pannepacker developed a reputation in the
greater Princeton market as a "boutique" firm of accounting
professionals, customizing its professional services to meet the
individual needs of its clients. Unlike many other accountants,
the firm resisted diversification into insurance and investment
products, preferring to emphasize its high quality, specialized
accounting services. Our philosophy of working together with other
professional advisors has allowed us to maintain a team approach
toward helping clients achieve their goals, while maintaining a
dedicated focus on the accounting and tax needs of today's businesses
and individuals.
In March 1999, the firm suffered tragedy at the unexpected passing
of Gary Pannepacker (1958-1999). With the tremendous help and loyalty
of our associates, clients, family and friends, Lear & Pannepacker
worked through a difficult year and began anew the process of building
a firm to carry on the tradition of excellence started by Eric and
Gary.
Today, Lear & Pannepacker LLP is again well positioned to meet
the needs of its clients. In the fast-paced, dynamic business environment
of the new millennium, the need for effective and flexible strategies
for asset growth, financial reporting, tax planning and wealth building
is crucial for both individuals and businesses alike. Our firm meets
those needs by building trustworthy, long-term relationships with
our clients. The firm of Lear & Pannepacker prides itself on
combining the ethics and objectivity inherent in traditional early
20th century accounting firms with the creativity and technical
know-how of the past twenty years, to provide "modern solutions
to modern problems with old-fashioned integrity".
